Information
The Runaway Train at Chessington World of Adventures was a thrilling roller coaster ride that first opened in 1987. With its rocky mountain runaway train theme, it quickly became a popular attraction for thrill-seekers from all over the world.
The ride started off slow, taking riders through a dark tunnel. Before picking up speed and zooming through a series of twists and turns. The designers created the track to simulate the sensation of riding a runaway train. With sudden drops and unexpected curves that left riders holding on tight.
Over the years, the ride became a classic at Chessington. Families and groups of friends would eagerly line up to experience the adrenaline rush that the Runaway Train provided. The park officials closed the ride for refurbishment in 2012.
The park unveiled the revamped ride in 2014, after months of anticipation. Gone were the rocky mountain themes and rockwork that had been a defining feature of the original attraction. The park had transformed the ride into Scorpion Express. A thrilling coaster ride that took riders through the Scorpion Valley. A town and its mines over-run by Scorpions.
Despite the changes, Scorpion Express retained the thrills and excitement that had made the Runaway Train such a beloved attraction.
Today, Scorpion Express is sadly no longer operational at Chessington World of Adventures. The ride closed following unexpected issues in July of 2022. Plans are finally being unveiled in December of 2024 to see the ride removed and replaced by a new themed land.
