Information
The name of this wacky, fun-house-style attraction delivered exactly what it promised. With its larger-than-life play equipment, it allowed kids to run riot, creating… well… a Temple of Mayhem. Children, young and old, would soon start to resemble the out-of-control, feral monkeys that once ruled the roost in many ancient temples.
The concept of the Temple of Mayhem was just that—a ruined temple where monkeys reigned supreme and created havoc. The exterior was heavily themed to pay homage to the temples of South-Eastern Asia. Making it a fitting and integral part of Wild Asia.
Before finding its home at Chessington, the attraction was originally located at the Millennium Dome. Opening for the year as part of the Millennium celebrations, it was one of the featured attractions. Initially named Timekeepers of the Millennium, it welcomed guests as part of the festivities. Chessington had always intended for the attraction to become part of the park. However, delays in removing it from the Dome meant its opening at Chessington was postponed until 2002.
Of course, simply moving Timekeepers of the Millennium to Beanoland wouldn’t have worked. It needed a transformation to fit its new home. Chessington’s creative team reimagined the attraction, working hard on its theming, and Dennis’ Madhouse was born. What could be a more perfect attraction for Dennis the Menace than a chaotic play area where guests could fire air-powered foam ball launchers at each other?
After years of delighting guests as Dennis’ Madhouse, the attraction was later re-themed into Temple of Mayhem to complement the launch of Wild Asia in 2010. It remained a popular play area for many years. Before finally closing at the end of 2024 and being removed to make way for future attractions.
