Chessington Plans New Carousel
August 15th 2016
Chessington has today submitted a planning application to Kingston Borough Council seeking permission to install a new carousel ride within Market Square. Replacing the existing classic carousel at the park with a new, more modern version.
The application outlines the park plans to remove the existing Carousel. With the Donut shop in Market Square becoming the home of the new ride. With the existing Carousel site simply being pathed over.
The new ride, built by Italian ride manufacturer, Bertazzon looks set to open for 2017, subject to planning approval and features a large themed tree above the ride with heavily themed features. The theming piece at the top of the ride looks set to be more than just theming, however. The set is likely to also be a water feature, adding a unique twist to this classic attraction.
The news of a new carousel coming to the park is welcome. But it will be sad to see the parks classic ride removed. The current carousel features unique and historic artwork adorning the top. What will happen to this artwork, or the current ride is unknown. Chessington Buzz will of course follow the progress of the attraction as work takes place in the park.
