Chessington Plans New Themed Land! A major new development is in the works at Chessington World of Adventures. The Resort has officially submitted a planning application for a brand-new themed land. The proposed project, known internally as Project Play, promises to transform a significant area of the park.
According to the submitted documents, the new land will replace much of the existing Mexicana area, as well as the Children’s Zoo and the picnic space behind Croc Drop. The plans outline a 1.4-acre development designed to deliver engaging attractions tailored for younger guests.
The application reveals a multi-million-pound investment, with the proposed area set to feature four rides, including a small family rollercoaster. Additional features include a new play area, interactive elements, a themed food and drink unit, and a dedicated retail outlet. Carefully crafted landscaping and immersive theming will create a highly detailed environment intended to support storytelling and interactive exploration.
The new land is being designed with younger children and their families in mind, offering accessible attractions that introduce young visitors to the world of themed entertainment. While the planning documents focus on layout and design, they hint at an area rich in character and creative detail.
The project will bring new energy to a corner of the park that has remained largely unchanged for years. By revitalising underused space, Chessington continues to evolve its offering while remaining committed to providing experiences the whole family can enjoy.
With the planning application now under review, this marks the first official step toward bringing Project Play to life. While timelines for the project have not been confirmed, this submission sets the wheels in motion for a bold new chapter at Chessington.
