Chessington’s Project Play gets approval, marking a major step forward for the Resort’s next family-focused themed land.
Chessington World of Adventures has officially received approval for the 1.4-acre development, clearing the way to begin full-scale construction. The new land will replace much of the Mexicana area, the Children’s Zoo, and the picnic space behind Croc Drop. Bringing fresh life to this long-standing corner of the park.
Plans include four new family attractions, a dedicated play area, interactive features, a retail unit, and a food and beverage outlet. The development will focus on creating an engaging, story-driven environment for younger guests and their families.
With the approval granted, construction is expected to ramp up quickly. Site activity has already been underway, under the codename Project Play. With visible changes to the area, including demolition and groundwork preparations.
The removal of Scorpion Express, which had thrilled visitors since 1987, cleared the path for this next-generation experience. While many will miss the iconic family coaster. The approved plans will pave the way for an immersive new space packed with family adventure.
Planning documents show a strong emphasis on vibrant theming, accessible design, and a layout that encourages play and exploration. From the carefully considered landscaping to the placement of interactive elements. The new land looks set to deliver a bold, purpose-built experience tailored to the youngest theme park fans.
Chessington World of Adventures continues to invest heavily in its future, and Project Play’s approval highlights the Resort’s commitment to evolving its lineup. Although the park hasn’t confirmed an official opening date, a new era is already beginning to take shape for guests to look forward to.
