Runaway Train Closed For 2013

  March 18th 2013

Runaway Train Closed For 2013. Chessington has sadly confirmed that they will keep the Runaway Train closed for the 2013 season. The ride originally opened in 1987 and was an opening day attraction for the park.

The Runaway Train has sadly looked pretty tired of late. We anticipate that Chessington will rejuvenate the ride. The rockwork has seen better days and the ride’s operation has been somewhat unreliable. With spouts of downtime throughout most of the 2012 season.

We believe that they closed the ride due to safety concerns about the ride’s rockwork. When they originally constructed the attraction, they installed the structure on scaffolding. It is thought that the scaffolding structure will be removed and new, permanent rockwork will be installed. With the ride reopening in 2014.

Other safety concerns regarding theming within the park have seen other changes. With the removal of the large stone heads from the main drop of Dragon Falls. Alongside other theming aspects around the park. We believe that these items, which were installed when the park first opened, are no longer structurally safe

Although it is unconfirmed if the ride will reopen in the same guise. They have confirmed that they will not remove the ride from the resort. We will of course be keeping a close eye on the work going on. Keep an eye on our website and social channels for the latest news and updates.
