Scorpion Express Opens

  March 15th 2014

Scorpion Express opens. Following a year closed, the former Runaway Train has reopened. Operating under a new guise for 2014, Scorpion Express is the big new attraction. Although not a brand-new ride, the attraction has received a major refurbishment project. Settling itself in as the new attraction for Chessington World of Adventures in 2014.

Scorpion Express is a brand-new experience for 2014 set within Scorpion Valley – a land of sweeping sands and gold mines. The ride now also features both water and fire effects. A huge blast of fire launched into the sky as trains rattle past. A mechanical scorpion also shoots jets of water onto guests.

Scorpion Express is the exact same ride hardware as the former Runaway Train ride. The rejuvenated ride has however changed. Featuring all-new theming, a new queue and new sets. The ride feels as new once again.

The Runaway Train looked pretty tired before its closing. Due to concerns over the safety of the ride’s rockwork. It was confirmed the ride would be closed during 2013 whilst works are undertaken.

With work now finished, it’s great to have the ride back open once again. We were there to experience the ride on its opening and really enjoyed the changes. It’s great that Chessington has gone back and fixed up this tired classic.

With Chessington now open for the season, we’ll be providing plenty of updates throughout the year. Be sure to follow Chessington Buzz for all the latest news!
