Project Zoo
Chessington World of Adventures has officially begun its ambitious new initiative, Project Zoo. With what we expect to be the first phase of development now underway. This expected multi-phase project promises to deliver extensive enhancements to the park’s Zoo. Improving both the guest experience and animal habitats. With construction set to begin once planning has been agreed. The park has submitted plans for the first major change: the relocation of the Rainbow Lorikeets.
Formerly residing in the now closed Lorikeet Lagoon within Wild Asia. The colourful birds have found a new home in Wanyama Village & Reserve. Project Zoo gets underway with this exciting relocation, which will see the Lorikeets moved into the former Flamingo habitat. The new habitat will offer an interactive, walk-through experience, bringing guests closer to nature, similarly to before.
According to the plans, visitors will enter the new Lorikeet enclosure and have the opportunity to feed the birds. Nectar will be available to purchase through a built-in sales unit at the entrance to the habitat. This setup replicates the popular experience previously found in Wild Asia. Offering an up-close encounter that families and animal lovers are sure to enjoy.
While the new space is smaller than the original enclosure. Chessington plans to house fewer birds, ensuring their welfare remains a priority. This careful planning reflects the park’s ongoing commitment to high standards of animal care, even during a major transformation.
Project Zoo gets underway as a defining step towards enhancing Chessington’s Zoo offering, with future phases expected to follow in the coming years. Fans of the Resort can expect more changes as Project Zoo continues to evolve.
