Project Zoo Construction
Project Zoo Construction could start soon. Preparations are underway at Chessington World of Adventures for the first phase of this brand-new development. This exciting new chapter will see areas of the park’s long-established Zoo area transformed. Starting with the relocation and redevelopment of the Rainbow Lorikeet habitat.
Once planning approval is granted, work will begin to convert the former Flamingo enclosure in Wanyama Village & Reserve. Building a new, vibrant, walkthrough habitat. This updated space will house a reduced number of Lorikeets, relocated from the now-closed Lorikeet Lagoon in Wild Asia.
Although the new enclosure is smaller than the original, careful design ensures a high standard of welfare for the birds. Fencing, landscaping, and internal structures are expected to be installed quickly following approval. Throughout Project Zoo Construction, the park will ensure minimal disruption to other areas of Wanyama Village. Maintaining guest access while delivering the new exhibit.
The start of construction also marks the first physical sign of what could become a wider Zoo redevelopment. While no additional phases have been confirmed, the construction of this new habitat sets the tone for future changes. Project Zoo hints at a long-term vision for the Zoo, with modernised habitats and immersive experiences potentially on the horizon.
As Project Zoo Construction progresses, updates will follow right here, tracking every development from groundwork to grand opening. With hammers ready and habitats taking shape, a new era at Chessington’s Zoo is about to begin.

Lorikeet Relocation
The Rainbow Lorikeets have now been relocated to a new, temporary habitat in Wanyama Village & Reserve. Their new home, located near the Resort Hotels, uses the former Flamingo enclosure. This temporary move allows the birds to remain on display while construction on their permanent habitat progresses. Guests can still view the Lorikeets in this interim space, though no feeding is currently offered. The relocation marks the first visible step in the wider redevelopment plans under the banner of Project Zoo at Chessington.

Other Construction
Construction crews are hard at work in the Amazu area as part of the next stage of Chessington’s Zoo improvements. A large, secure enclosure is rising on the site of the former small primate walkthrough. Builders are making full use of the original airlock entrances, sparking speculation about what’s to come.
The structure’s size and layout suggest it could welcome more small primates, possibly expanding the existing group. However, the park may also be planning something new, with fresh species joining the Zoo’s line-up.
With no official details confirmed, the future use of this new habitat remains a mystery.
