Project Zoo Planning
Chessington World of Adventures has submitted its first Project Zoo planning application for an exciting new redevelopment. This early proposal marks the beginning of what could become a sweeping transformation of the park’s Zoo area. Although the future scope of the project remains unconfirmed, this first stage gives a strong indication of the direction Chessington may take.
The current application details the relocation of the park’s Rainbow Lorikeets, which were previously housed in the now-closed Lorikeet Lagoon in Wild Asia. As part of Project Zoo, these vibrant birds will move to Wanyama Village & Reserve. Taking over the former Flamingo habitat located near the Resort Hotels. The plans include the construction of a new walkthrough enclosure, where guests will be able to purchase nectar and feed the Lorikeets.
Unlike the original Wild Asia habitat, this new space will be slightly smaller. The area will house fewer Lorikeets to prioritise their welfare. The new location will continue to offer up-close guest interaction, maintaining the popular experience in a refreshed and more accessible part of the Zoo.
While this Project Zoo Planning application focuses solely on the Lorikeet relocation. It raises wider questions about the future of Chessington’s other animal exhibits. Although no one has confirmed additional phases, speculation suggests the park may undertake a multi-phase redevelopment. Areas such as the Trail of the Kings and other underutilised spaces could be next in line for modernisation.
It is important to note that any talk of a phased approach remains purely speculative at this stage. Only the first proposal is confirmed. Still, this exciting application gives fans a first look at what could be a bold and transformative chapter in the Zoo’s long-standing history at Chessington World of Adventures.

Phase One Plans
Phase One Plans
Phase One of Project Zoo marks the potential beginning of a bold transformation at Chessington World of Adventures Resort. The first confirmed step involves relocating the park’s colourful Rainbow Lorikeets from the now-closed Wild Asia aviary to a brand-new habitat in Wanyama Village & Reserve. This new walkthrough enclosure takes over the former Flamingo habitat and offers guests an immersive, interactive experience.
Plans reveal that visitors will be able to step inside the habitat and purchase nectar from a built-in sales unit to feed the Lorikeets. This mirrors the popular experience once offered in Wild Asia, keeping guest interaction at the heart of the Zoo’s future. The enclosure will be slightly smaller than the original, but fewer Lorikeets will live in the space to ensure excellent welfare standards.
This move represents a fresh start for the birds and forms the first sign of potentially wider changes to come. Project Zoo aims to enhance habitats and modernise ageing infrastructure. While only the Lorikeet relocation is confirmed, Phase One signals the beginning of what we believe is a long-term vision.
